   Welcome message from General Director

In its time, the printing press transformed the world through the reproduction, distribution and storing of the knowledge contained in books. Half a millennium after the technological revolution of informatics, it might be possible for knowledge to be further disseminated, thus becoming the hub of those processes that move the social and productive life of man, just as mobile printing and steam machines did. The Internet is a sign of this challenge, and it may in time become a tool for the construction of new paths of linkage between men, thus creating bridges that will allows to share our knowledge and have access to that of others.

From the point of view of the ideals that animate UNESCO, the Internet constitutes the vehicle through which more and more people are able to profit from the benefits of information and communication, in keeping with those values set down in the Millennium Declaration underwritten by the United Nations Summit of the year 2000, considered fundamental for international relationships: freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, respect for nature and common responsibility.

Our portal seeks to become a further link in that great project: the shared use of knowledge. It pleases me to welcome net surfers, and hope that this space will be useful in providing the information needed.
